LA and Physics in two days' time. Sometimes I'm nervous, sometimes I'm not. Currently, I'm not. But 10 minutes ago I was. Spent the most of this morning + afternoon freaking out about IH. Which I realise was quite silly since IH is like, in two weeks or something. And then I started freaking out over freaking out over IH because now I was freaking out over Physics. The thought of SRQ for LA just kills me.

Anyway, it'll be over soon. I mean two days. Two days out of all the thousands I've lived through. They're just about as inconsequential as an electron as compared to the entire freaking universe.

One of the past French lessons, Mlle Fournier (who is from Marseille, as weasled out by Rachel Wu last lesson) told us something I found very meaningful and inspiring. She said the French don't like to refer to different races as races. Like Chinese race, Malay race etc, because they think that all humans are one race: the human race. Which I found kind of true. We call ourselves belonging to the human race, yet we still segregate oursevles and call our different groups as different races... Weird much?

Zee old Crocs shoes, bought in December 2007, from the Sogo at Bali.

And I was hoping that they were gonna say "同学们:这次的统测被取消!"

The mega pack of chestnut thingies. My hand is there for size comparison.

Zee evil nut.

April-June birthday "celeration" for guzheng! Hooty bought a huge chocolate-indulgence-chocolate-banana cake O-O

And a real knife. Not those plastic ones that belong in a kid's toy set.

The inside... See the banana?

My giganormous slice -.-

I was speechless when I saw this. Like really. They give us an option for WEP, and expect us to choose it just based on the objectives -.-

Meiling's heart-shaped thingy :P

Took ages to finally be able to get this photo.

Slimeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!! I should totally have used the red + yellow + green + whatelse colouring sigh D:

It reminds me of a satay.

And I still have the soap made from corn oil during the first Chem prac of Sec 2 hoho!

Talk about hoarding.

My "super ball". It's supposed to look like a chicken's heart, but here it looks like someone's tongue got cut out. At first, I wanted to mix all the food colourings together and get some weird colour, but I mixed all already, except the dark blue one, when Wyin came over and realised that the bloody red colour I had was quite cool so I used it instead... and then my "super ball" became some weird colour and Yi Xin pointed out that it looked like a chicken's heart .____.

So, there. Other people have super balls and I have a freaking chicken's heart.

But anyway I threw it away already because it kept sticking to random places (like my sink) when I wanted to dry it (because it kept leaking ethanol), and I couldn't stand to have its base end up taking the shape of the surface it was on, so I gave up and threw it away.

Hello... Random unknown caller from Texas.

I really love the air bubbles trapped in the slime... They remind me of the stars in the universe.

But I woke up this morning and found out with great sadness that the air had escaped and the bubbles had disappeared during the night )):

Gotta have to throw the slime away soon too. Someone told me that over time, mould will grow on it and/or it will decompose O-O

Yesterday's super early dinner at 5.15! I was really really intrigued by the colour combination of the food :P

WAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

So I waited for really long for Dad to come and pick me up, and I was busy tweeting all my responses and whatnot while sipping my green tea frapp.

"Happy Hunger Games! And may the odds be ever in your favor!"

"They kept repeating that one line though..."

"But seriously. If the fashion is gonna be like that in the future, I think I'd rather kill myself."

"And I totally hated that girl from district 2"

"And President Snow."

"I wonder if that guy-who-was-made-to-eat-berries-in-the-end's curly beard was painted on or was it a sticker"

"AND MA QIANHUI OWES ME $7.50"

"One of the best parts: @NeoJingCi whistling softly when Katniss whistled (Y) I could hear even from 6 seats away"

"And then we were giggling like crazy after @NeoJingCi whistled"

"Plus the entire cinema was filled with university students for once I felt young ._."

"@NeoJingCi I won't mind if you start whistling the hunger games tune in class :D"

"Argh that hornet part was really... URGH. I kept swatting my neck. I HATE BUZZY INSECT NOISES."

"The Gale-stares-enviously-at-TV-while-Katniss-and-Peeta-kiss parts were somewhat hilarious, though"

"But that last scene of Katniss and Peeta in the Capitol... Katniss' blue eyeshadow seriously DID NOT go with her white dress"

"But why they never use Safe and Sound in the show at all DDD:"

The shorter trailer for the sake of my parents who don't know what The Hunger Games is and have been asking me about the storyline.

Sigh they don't allow me to embed the longer and original trailer... Which is obviously nicer.

I love the song they used in the original trailer.

There's a tune that starts at 0:39 which I feel really adds to the entire mood of the song. Because it resembles the wail of sirens during emergencies or wartime, and in a sense, this is sort of an ominous backdrop signifying the impending rebellion which is gonna take place in the next two installments.

I read up on Wiki, and I love the symbolism of the Mockingjay.

I guess it's only a matter of time before I start reading the books.

Totally gonna slack today off :/

#758 held up so high on such a breakable thread

They say that exams are there so that the teachers can judge how much you have learned so far, but I beg to differ.

I like to learn new things. The feeling of receiving a set of new notes - fresh, clean, hot from the printer - on an entirely new topic makes me happy, when I'm not in such a down mood at least. There's a certain joy in annotating my notes and scribbling down as neatly as possible whatever the teacher says, and then that even more satisfied feeling when at the end of the lesson, I've actually managed to understand whatever new that has been taught.

But then the quizzes and the exams come by... And these are what take the joy out of learning.

All of a sudden, the notes that I've taken down look so wordy and just plain long. When we're being forced to memorise practically every single thing word for word, it makes all that I'm memorising seem all the less important to me and my entire life. For exams, we must memorise all of this info, we must memorise all of these formats, we must memorise all of these key phrases and words and must include them in our responses so that we'll get the mark, we must memorise all these formulae...

How, may I so politely ask, is this learning? When we're just tossed a set of papers (sometimes we even have to make them ourselves) and we're supposed to memorise it all? I bet there are students out there who memorise just for the sake of exams, without actually understanding what they're memorising.

Those education-over-enthusiasts shoot us doubtful and judgemental faces whenever we say we hate learning and studying and education and school and whatnot. Well, this is why we hate it. Because the true spirit of learning has been severely undermined in this endless quest of rolling out excessive quizzes and exams. Tell me, how can we bring ourselves to love learning with all our hearts and souls when all they're really concerned about is how well we do for exams, and to get to that standard, we must memorise every single little detail?

But then again, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe there are those saints out there who are true fans of education who will love it and stand by it no matter what. Well, I'm sorry, but that is not me. I absolutely do not have the capacity to adore something till that extent.

As so many people have retweeted about on Twitter, our education system is majorly screwed up. They say that the young are the future leaders of our country. So tell me, how can we be the future leaders of the country when what they're breeding now is a horde of mindless zombies who only know how to memorise?

#757 don't leave me hanging in a city so dead
Tuesday, 27 March 2012

Life is so mundane that I can't even think straight anymore.

Not that I can think straight, to begin with. And I'm blabbering nonsense again, just saying whatever comes onto my mind. I feel dead. I have been feeling this dead since... IH. Which was second period of the day, so you know for how long I've been feeling dead.

Just finished my homework for the day (the totally sucky thing about having BTs spread out over the course of more than a month), and I can't think of what else to do right now. It's not as if I don't have anything to do (on the contrary, there's Physics revision, Bio SPA revision, Chem SPA revision -ack-, IH revision, French homework bla bla bla...), I just can't bring myself to do them. Ok yes I can never bring myself to do work, same old procrastination story. Let's just push everything to Wednesday and Friday because those are the days when I get home early. And let's just hope that I won't procrastinate and fall asleep on whatever study material that is.

It's quite scary, the thought about how I don't dare to sleep early because I'm worried that I forgot to do something.

I think on the very first day next year, I'll start a book. And every single day, I'll list in it all the things that have made me happy throughout the day. It's a long shot, but seems like a worthy one. Don't ask me why I don't want to start it now. It just really disturbs me how I'm not starting something new on the first day of a new year but right smack on some random date. Like a diary.

So many memories I want to relive over and over again. Most of them revolve around a six letter word beginning with F and ending with E.

Chinese is over.

应用文 was okay. 作文 was horrendous. I had no idea which topic to pick and ended up crapping an entire three and a half pages of 报章读后感. And of course later I found out that most people did either 记叙文 or 议论文. I completely 离题ed. 综合填空 was atrocious. Won't be surprised if I fail it.

French this week was better than last week, for reasons. Got back our Controle. 73/100. Listening was screwed. CE was quite okay. Closure was puke-worthy. Compo was... sigh. Could've gotten 6 marks higher =.=

Oh seriously my blog posts are just getting more and more boring. I can read this in my head, and it's in this dull, monotonous voice. Like a robot.

On the bright side, I can more or less play Safe and Sound on the piano now. With many many pauses.

Sigh should I follow Hooty to watch Hunger Games on Friday night ._.

Sigh IH EE. Kill me now.

The only thing I look forward to for tomorrow is that Episode 8 will be uploaded. Hallelujah.

I realise I know very few French artistes.

My thumbdrive in the shape of un singe is called Thumberella.

Or was it Thumbelina.

No, Thumbelina is the one with Daddy's old company logo on it. The Sun Microsystems one.

Eh, then what's the one with the faded Oracle logo called. Thumb-something.

Is it Thumboo?

Eh no, Thumboo's the really old, really fat one.

I shall insert it in now to check.

Roses are red, violets are blue.

The French name of Mona Lisa is La Joconde.

Finally, something that sounds more elegant in English than in French.

The dot over the letter "i" is called a tittle.

A female ferret will die if it goes into heat and cannot find a mate.

When I first read that (about the ferret), I thought it literally meant the ferret going out of its underground tunnel and into the hot desert sun.

Then if it can't find a mate, it'd drop dead on its back with its legs in the air and its tongue sticking out and its eyes rolled back.

Of course I later realised what it really meant.

The number of possible ways of playing the first four moves per side in a game of chess is 318,979, 564,000.

American Airlines saved $40,000 in 1987 by eliminating one olive from each salad served in first class.

Charlie Chaplin once won third price in a Charlie Chaplin look-a-like contest.

Astronauts are not allowed to eat beans before they go into space because passing wind in a spacesuit will damage it.

And that thumbdrive of an unknown name is not getting detected.

Forget it.

I am rambling.

Rambles.

#754 you fall and you crawl and you break and you take what you get and turn it into
Saturday, 24 March 2012

Trying to learn this song on the piano recently.

It has now become my favourite Taylor Swift song.

Highlight of today was the PL Guzheng Concert, which was beautiful of course, and also brought back many memories of primary school days. Jolene and Mignon recognised more people than I did, so while they were busy pointing out people and going "hey, isn't that ___???", I'd be standing by one side and going "who?? who??" like some idiot.

And everyone's grown so tall. The PL guzheng costume is so much nicer than the Nanyang one. Ku Er Ban and 彝族 and 赛马 were all like... Sigh. Undescribable.

It's been a more than half a week already and I still can't get over this picture (Y)

Wednesday.

I LOVE THESE THINGIESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, the Japanese and their cute little food knick knacks.

The jam while on the way home from CCA (as usual) -.-

Refer to above picture on cute little Japanese food thingies.

I haven't started on this, actually.

As in, I took it out with the intention of eating ice cream, but then I proceeded to eat something else and realised I wasn't too hungry anymore, so I went to eat mochi instead :D

The 1D relatives are trending!

He sleeps weird.

So... I broke another comb.

Look at my past victims... I should start creating a comb graveyard or something.

We were joking that I should get a diamond comb, then if I break that one, my hair can become famous by becoming the strongest material known.

Love this song <3

#752 you're watching your back, like you can't relax

I think the most interesting part of the day today was eyeball dissection :DD Which will not be said at this point of time because I will elaborate on it later.

So first period was Physics and time was passing really slowly. Like it felt as if 45 minutes had already passed... but it was only 10 -dies- IH was slightly better, but I started to freak out over how much stuffos we have to memorise for BT1 TToTT

Bio. Scroll down for more.

Yeah anyway the rest of the day was quite boring.

I realise I eat a lot. Not that I don't know this already, but still. During lunch, I had a bowl of cheesy dory. Then after Chinese remedial I started to get hungry, so I ate the packet of Mamee thingy which we'd won from Graces Interclass Games. Or one of the competitions whatever. Then went for CCA... and yes. Around 5 o' clock I started getting hungry again. I wanted to eat something then, but kept stalling... for no apparent reason. Went home, had noodles for dinner plus slices of mango.

And now, at 9:23, 2 hours and 15 minutes after having dinner,

I. AM. HUNGRY. AGAIN.

Not that much lah. But I can feel the slight pangs coming already D:

Oh yes this definitely helps.

My collection of Readers Digest from February 2007 to January 2010 ((:

Have I said before that I used to love Readers Digest? But I thought the older ones were better.

And then I wondered why all the vampire books I have have black covers .____________.

Oh! While doing AD recorrections, my old mechanical pencil (grrrrr) died on me. And I was so pissed. The lead kept going back in even upon slight pressure, although it was a new long nice piece of lead. So in frustration, I hopped out of my seat (this was on Monday, btw) and went all the way to the bookshop at the other end of the school to get a new mechanical pencil and WOULD YOU LOOK AT THE DIFFERENCE IN COLOUR?!?!?!

BIO PRAC :D

Dorabird's entire bag of 16 eyeballs :DDD

I was quite surprised, because she managed to put everything in a 7-Eleven bag (which are rather small to begin with) and I saw it and I was like... How did you manage to fit 15 eyeballs (I later learned that there were, in fact, 16) in there?!?!

MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA >:DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

Seriously, all the time when I was dissecting the eyeball (which caused my hand to really hurt because the scissors was so damn hard to hold and cut), random words like "Nightmare on Elm Street" and "Phantom of the Opera" were running in my head .________. Oh, and also the song The Kraken from POTC.

-fiddles with eyeballs-

Masterpiece by Wyin.

This is currently my Twitter dp :D

After cutting, and I'm holding it up by the whatchamacallit AHAH I REMEMBER! Cornea! Yes, the black liquid is whatever that oozed out from the insides of the eyeball.

But don't worry!! ^^ The insides of your eyeballs are currently transparent (or something), because (if I remember correctly but ignore me if I'm wrong), they only get that black pigmentation when you die. Or something.

Which is rather strange. I mean, how did they find out that eyeball juice is not black when you're not dead... Does it mean that they cut open someone's eyeball when he/she was alive?

Food for thought.

You know, it does look like a longan...

From back to front, left to right: tissues surrounding the eyeball that I had to cut out before dissecting the actual eyeball, lens, other eyeball (they come in pairs, if you haven't realised), cornea, scelera turned inside out.

The other eyeball!! With eyelashes still on it.

Yanmama's was the best :D (Y)

-jiggles eyeball in palm-

Wyin dissecting...

And in a fit of excitement, I stabbed the eyeball!! :DDDDDDDDDDDDDD

Don't worry, I did it in the sink.

Sadly, the juice didn't spurt out ten feet tall like a fountain like I hoped it would )':

I stabbed it (second try, because first try and missed and ended up stabbing the styrofoam plate instead) and yes, the juice came out, but it was like a trickle -.-

Wyin trying to get the other lens out because she became obsessed with the lens...

ZEE LENS!!

-squish squish-

I poked the scalpel right through the eyeball :D

MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA >:DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

Wyin's collection of lens -.-

Ahah I see the smiley face on the plate :P

Sabrina's lens which she insisted on taking a picture of.

Sigh. And there goes our last dissection in Nanyang.
